Happy Mothers Day – a Dogs Celebration of Dog-Ma’s.

May 14, 2020 by phalterman79

All Paws Retreat is a Daycare and Boarding facility in Franklinton, Ohio. I started working with them last year doing Back to School Portraits of their pups. The photos were a hit.

Casie, the owner, has allowed me to spread my creative wings with her pups and after a few more sessions, we decided in January to sit down and plan our calendar of the year of sessions. We painstakingly planned out every date and theme.

Little did we know what the next couple of months would hold.
Two days prior to the Stay at Home order, Casie and her fiancé and I even had gone out and done their engagement photos.

So here we 2 months later and working with face masks, and gloves, and hand sanitizer everywhere. Our hands are dry and flaking from soap and alcohol, but we are back to work on a limited capacity.

I stepped into the daycare full of anxiety but loaded with pink backdrop and flowers galore.

We wanted to do SOMETHING special to honor the Moms in the lives of the dogs, and what better than pretty pink flowery and bow tie laden doggie?

I adored this session so much. It turned out dainty, and sweet and beautiful.

Jenn + Patrick + Scioto Mile + Engagement Session + Columbus, Ohio

May 15, 2017 by phalterman79

Jenn and Patrick at Scioto Mile and Schiller Park

In late April we scheduled engagement photos thinking the weather would be warm enough to be “comfortable” without jackets for short bursts of time and the spring flowers would be in full bloom and trees would be lush with fresh buds. Ohio, as usual, had its own agenda. It was cold, oh so cold. We made best of it and took some fun photos with their dog Chessie.

We decided though that would meet again when it was warmer and take some more photos and met up in early may for a session at Scioto Mile.

The weather again tried to scare us away but the evening erupted into a fantastic sunset. Shades of purples and oranges helped create some of my favorite images ever!

Pam and Thurmans Fall Family Photos
Goodale Park, Columbus Ohio

Its always special when you get to photograph your family. Recently, one of my husbands Aunts contacted me about having family photos done for thier 50th Anniversary present. She wanted new photos of the grand-kids, and family photos of everyone. We decided on to do them in November. We couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was in the 60’s and the leaves were still on the trees.

The Studio Name

June 6, 2016 by phalterman79 Leave a Comment

a Name for the business

Lola's eyes

I don’t talk much about my personal life here, but i feel like I should probably talk about this. I made it an “official” business around 2006 and struggled for a long time to come up with a clever quirky name. I didn’t want to use my own name as it was too long, and settled on a name that was even longer. The irony is not lost on me.  I wanted to somehow incorporate my heritage, and my name, but Lucky Photography was taken, and nothing i came up with the Gaelic Translations sounded good to me. I also knew somehow my pets would be part of the business as well, and couldn’t decide how to incorporate them either.

At the time when i was creating this, my best furry pal, my faithful follower and protecter, was and is Lola. Lola is my beautiful redheaded (now white) shepherd mutt. Ive had her since 2000, when she was a wee pup. Today, however I look upon her old white face and thank the heavens for each day she is with me.

I did not initially adopt her, a friend did from Greene County Animal Shelter, and turned out she couldn’t keep this adorable fat puppy. I was a total sucker for her from the moment I met her. Lola has been my partner in crime and constant companion. She traveled with me everywhere, she loved to climb out on the roof with me and watch the world from up high. She protected my property, and myself.lola on the roof

She was my husbands first dog love. She was his his constant running parter while they both could still get up at 5am and run 4 miles. She taught him how great life is with a dog. They played fetch for hours, and she greeted him happily at the door every evening with her big dopey grin, even when she had just emptied the entire contents of the kitchen trash can all over the floor.

She was my Muse, OUR Muse and still is. She would sit pretty for me and let me practice my photography on her for hours, giving me soulful eyes and sideways glances. It clicked finally that to me that she, while having an expiration, had to be part of my studio name.

Lola's squinchy face

Its 10 years later and we grow nearer that date by the day instead of the years, as I had once thought would take forever to happen. I have worried about how I will handle having my business named after my long lost pal, and now have come to realize it wont matter. It was my way of honoring her then, and will always be a way to honor her.

Lucky Lola will remain who I am, even when she is no longer with me.
RIP my sweet girl. You are so sorely missed. (Dec 20 2016)

Danielle and Scott Engagement Photos

SchIller Park, German Village Columbus Ohio

As mentioned in earlier blog posts, Ohio’s weather hasn’t cooperated lately and finally we had chilly but sunny spring weekend to meet up at the beautiful Schiller Park in the Historic German Village for Scott and Danielle’s engagement session. We took a stroll through the park as they told me about their first date, the renovations of Danielle’s old house as they plan to sell it and prepare for the merging of households. These two love birds laughed so easily together and smiled so much it was infectious.

We are going to have so much fun at their wedding!
Scott and Danielle’s summer wedding will be held at the gorgeous Irongate Equestrian Center.

With the release of Batman Vs Superman, i thought it would be fun to have some Superhero Minis.

Carter, Avery and best pal Beckett joined me in the studio for a SUPER HERO MINI SESSION (Imagine that in a deep dramatic movie overture)
Carter in his batman costumed was a force to be reckoned with, as he and Beckett donned his Superman cape to roam around my studio looking for Villains! (No Joker or Lex Luthor here boys!) Avery kept herself in the busy turning her Golden Lasso into a pile of .. well.. messy lasso.

A surprise wedding in German Village, Lindeys

German Village Wedding Surprise

The Engagement Party

Hayley and Shawn have been together for many many moons. They have a beautiful daughter, Charlotte, whom I have featured many times over the past year.
Back in January, Hayley messaged me about a different type of photo session; an engagement party! They invited around 90 guests to attend a luncheon announcing their engagement at Lindy’s in German Village.  They also had a surprise in store for everyone.

Hayley and Shawn got up in front of their friends to thank everyone for coming, and they were so happy to have all of their friends and family there, but that they also had a special announcement; they are all guests currently at their wedding!

A SURPRISE WEDDING

Hayley’s Dad was flabbergasted to say the least. Her mom happily ran around hugging guests out of excitement. They invited everyone to enjoy their cocktails and drinks as they went to get ready for the ceremony.
Hayley had a dress waiting for her, as well as Shawn having a suit to put on.  She did a first look for her father, and her mother as well.

They were married on the upstairs patio at Lindey’s in German Village.
